Dignatories including the Mayor of Kendal, Coun Tom Clare, youth organisations and members of the public took part in a First World War commemoration at Oxenholme Station.
Train operator Virgin arranged for a peace pole to be ‘planted’ in the station garden to mark the centenary of the start of the conflict.
The pole was carried to the garden on a Transpennine Express train from Windermere by local Sea Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.
The planting ceremony was led by the Rev Richard Cook.
