A TRAINING exercise turned into a real life mission for Kendal mountain rescuers at the weekend.

The team had been at Grayrigg carrying out a fake rescue on a male with a supposed ankle injury, when they were called out to Sedbergh following reports a woman had injured her ankle for real.

The incident occurred at around 12.30pm yesterday.

A spokesman for the team said: “We had just come to the end of a training exercise to the north of Grayrigg, in which we had to search for a male casualty, treat his injured ankle and stretcher him off the fell, when we were called to Soolbank, just north of Sedbergh.

“The only differences here were that it was a female casualty and it was the opposite ankle!”
