A CORRIE star and retro-rocker Alvin Stardust have helped a South lakes company raise more than £27,000 for charity.

They were among guests at the 12th annual charity ball hosted by the Pure Leisure Group’s owner John Morphet and his wife Donna in the grounds at Hall More House. The event raised £27,482 for Manchester’s Christie Charitable Fund, one of the largest hospital charities in Europe.

There was a retro sixties and seventies twist for the evening, with Alvin Stadust providing entertainment prior to a meal and fund-raising auction which included as prizes a 14-night stay in a Royal Westmoreland Villa in Barbados; a Cartier watch and jewellery from Diamonds International.

John Morphet has raised more than £1m for charities since he began hosting the ball in the grounds of the family home where he grew up.

He said: “It provides a unique opportunity to raise funds and awareness for such a good cause, which we are proud to be associated with. It is always a fun event and I’m pleased that together we can make a difference to the lives of so many people.”

The Christie Hospital treats more than 40,000 cancer patients a year and the money raised will go towards the funding of life-changing and potentially life-saving projects.

The hospital offers a state-of-the-art centre and has been pioneering cancer research for more than 100 years.
