THE literary heritage of the Lake District took a ‘small’ turn when the landmark Lindeth Howe Hotel branched out with a special display of haiku poems.

Bosses at the hotel – a property once owned by author Beatrix Potter – invited children aged seven to 11 to pen a five-line poem in the traditional Japanese style, summing up what they liked about the Lakes.

Enlarged copies of the entries were displayed around the gardens with entrants, teachers and parents viewing all the entries.
