KENDAL-born band Woman’s Hour went back to school to film their latest video.

Three of the band’s four members - siblings Fiona and Will Burgess and Nicolas Graves - hail from The Auld Grey Town and attended Queen Katherine’s School together.

In between festival appearances and launching the group’s debut album, singer Fiona returned to QKS - where she was a pupil between 1999 and 2006 - to direct the video for the band’s next single In Stillness We Remain.

The video features six Year 8 pupils performing dance routines they devised themselves.

“The idea came from my schooldays,” said Fiona. “When I was a teenager me and my friends got together to make dance routines and it was how we engaged with pop music.”

QKS’s head of performing arts and Fiona’s former drama teacher, Caroline Barber, chose the six pupils. And the local connections didn’t stop there - make-up artist/student Robyn Postle-thwaite and hairdressing tutor Denise Thompson – from Kendal College – helped out on the day, while QKS pupils Matthew Wood and Ella Scott were runners for the film crew, while Fiona’s mum Christine Burgess took care of the catering.

“We had such a fun day,” Fiona said. “Going back (to QKS) made me realise how important it was for my personal and social development.”

Woman’s Hour’s LP Conversations is BBC 6 Music’s Album of the Day and the band are at Kendal Calling this weekend.
