A SOUTH Lakeland family doctor and an Eden mountain rescue leader have been appointed Deputy Lieutenants for Cumbria.

Jane Norman, who has worked as a GP in Grange-over-Sands for 30 years, is also medical officer for Cartmel, Aintree, Haydock and Hexham racecourses.

Arthur Littlefair, who was educated at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, ran the family builders’ merchants until it was sold in 2008.

In addition to community roles, Mr Littlefair has been associated with Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team for 43 years. He was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours.
