A RUNNER was airlifted to hospital after plunging 100ft from a Lake District fell yesterday (August 2).
The man, in his 50s, was taking part in the 17-mile Borrowdale Fell Race when he fell from Scafell Pike and suffered severe multiple injuries.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called out at 3.10pm to assist Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team in the rescue of the man from Otley, Leeds.
The casualty was treated and winched from the scene by Sea King helicopter which took him to the valley floor, before being flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.
