A CAMPER was stretchered down a Lake District fell in a descent through ‘jungle’ that took almost two hours.

The 27-year-old man was bivvying with a friend at Kings How, Borrowdale, when he slipped and injured his ankle on Friday night (August 1).

On Saturday (August 2) Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 1.39pm as he was unable to bear his weight on it.

The man was given analgesia and had his ankle splinted and packaged before being carried on a stretcher through chest-high bracken and slippery boulders.

Keswick MRT said the ‘eventually the team emerged from the jungle’ before the casualty was handed over to the North west Air Ambulance Service and transported to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle for further treatment.

The three-and-a-half hour rescue was carried out with 17 team members.
