A RESCUE team called out to a collapsed Three Peaks walker discovered a second casualty yesterday (August 3).

Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation went out at 4.19pm to 25-year-old woman who was reported to be collapsed and unresponsive from exhaustion or hypothermia close to the summit ridge of Whernside, North Yorkshire, the ascent from the Blea Moor Aqueduct.

When the team arrived they found there was also a 46-year-old woman who was very cold and also unable to continue on the Three Peak challenge.

Following treatment from team members, the two casualties were stretchered down to Greensett Tarn where two helicopters airlifted them to hospital.

Further members of the group were escorted down from the summit and walked off the hill.
