AN EMERGENCY call was made yesterday (August 5) after a member of the public spotted people on the wrong side of the channel during an incoming tide in the Morecambe Bay.
HM Coastguard received the 999 call from the Promenade at Grange-over-Sands at 1.54pm and Arnside Coastguard Rescue team and Bay Search and Rescue were dispatched.
But a spokesman for HM Coastguard said when the teams arrived they found it was a false alarm.
“From where they were it looked like they were on the wrong side of the chanel,” he said. “It was a false alarm with good intent.”
The team was asked to keep the family of two adults, three children and a dog, who were enjoying a walk, under observation until they reached the shore.
