MOUNTAIN Rescue teams were called out to save five people from a notoriously dangerous rock face.

Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team were assisted by Kendal Mountain Rescue Team as they saved the group from Jack's Rake in Great Langdale at 2:45pm on Saturday, August 9.

A woman suffered a minor leg inury and was winched from the mountain by an RAF Sea King helicopter and flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The rescue team filmed their exploits (see below) which shows them releasing a flare and guiding the helicopter into position.

In 2012, the deadly stretch of rock claimed the lives of Susannah Cox, from Lancaster, and Howard Gladwyn, from West Yorkshire, who both fell to their deaths.

That double tragedy was followed by 13-year-old Tom Lister being seriously injured in a fall the following month.

Nick Owen, spokesperson for Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team, said: "It was very much a case of one person leading and making the decisions and four others going along with it against their better judgement.

"Be careful and be aware of the ability of the other members of your party.

"You have to take into account the weakest member of your party.

"By all means go up there but be aware what you are getting yourself in to - even the bottom bit of the climb is hard."
