DOG owners in Kendal are being warned to clean up after their dog or face a fine.

Police in Kendal, along with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) enforcement officers, are carrying out patrols of Kendal and the surrounding areas following numerous reports of dog foul in public places.

Inspector Paul Latham, from the Kendal Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “PCSOs, alongside SLDC, are actively patrolling the area and enforcing Dog Control Orders, and a zero tolerance attitude is being taken towards dog fouling.

“Penalty notices of £75 are being issued to dog owners who are found to not be cleaning up after their dogs.

A spokesperson for SLDC said: “The majority of dog owners are responsible, keep their dogs under control and clean up after them.

“However, the Dog Control Orders mean the Council’s enforcement officers can issue Fixed Penalty Notices when this isn’t the case and when irresponsible dog owners are identified.”
