POLICE have said that the  A66 near Brough is still closed following a five vehicle road traffic collision.

At 1:10pm today (Friday) emergency services were called to a multivehicle collision on the A66.

The five vehicles involved were a Renault Master, driven by a 61-year-old man, a Renault Traffic, driven by a 21-year-old man age, an Alfa Romeo, driven by a 48-year-old woman, a Vauxhall Zafira, driven by a 42-year-old man and a Landrover Freelander, driven by a 29-year-old woman.

Two people were released from their vehicles by firefighters and the Air Ambulance and paramedics also attended.

The driver of the Renault Traffic has been transported to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, with non-life threatening injuries.

The road is expected to open within the hour
