VOLUNTEER crewman from the RNLI’s Barrow station launched their all weather lifeboat early this morning (Monday), to rescue a disabled yacht in the Irish Sea.
A message came at 3.10am from Liverpool Coastguard saying that a 40ft yacht with six people on board had suffered an engine failure in the Irish Sea, 6.5 miles due west of Walney Island.
The crew were paged at around 3.15am and the lifeboat was launched around 15 minutes later with seven crew members aboard.
The lifeboat was at the scene by 3.55am and Coxswain Charnley took the casualty vessel under tow for the return journey to Roa Island.

The vessel was safely moored at 6.30am and the six people were taken off and landed on shore.
The lifeboat was then washed off and re-housed and made ready for the next service by 7.30am.
