A PLOT of land in Arnside which is ‘begging to be developed’ has been given the seal of approval for 10 apartments.

South Lakeland District Council's Planning Committee gave the green light to proposals for a two storey building on a ‘fill-in’ site on Redhills Road, after being addressed by Coun Ian Stewart.

“It’s not usual for a local member to speak to you in support of an application,” he said.

“But I’m doing so today and the reason is that this is a good example of partnership working.

“Partnership working of the developer with the community and the planning authority at SLDC.

“It’s produced an outcome that’s wanted, especially in the community.”

The development will include eight singe-storey apartments and two duplex apartments.

Four of the properties in the development will be ‘affordable’.

“I’m all in favour of this application,” said Coun Brian Cooper.

“It’s not very often I agree with Coun Stewart but on this occasion I’ve got to go along with it.

“It’s absolutely super - it’s a little fill-in site.

“I really like it and my wife would like to retire to Arnside. So if they’re cheap enough you never know!”

The application was also hailed by Coun Bharath Rajan, who said: “Having been on a site visit and actually seen the location of the site it’s very clear it’s begging to be developed.

“I wish the development best of luck.”

Approval was granted unanimously by the committee.
