A WALKER from Lincoln died after collapsing near Helvellyn yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
The Great North Air Ambulance Service said the 64-year-old man had suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed at 2.20pm at a peak just off the summit of England's third highest mountain.
Other walkers on the hill had started CPR by the time the GNAAS' Pride Of Cumbria helicopter arrived.
A spokesman for the GNAAS said low cloud had prevented the helicopter from reaching the casualty so a medic was dropped close by and made the rest of the way On foot.
"Patterdale and Keswick mountain rescue teams were also activated and a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter that was training nearby joined the effort," added the spokesman.
