A MAJOR motorsport event is set to return to an historic North Lancashire stately home after 45 years.

Hundreds of classic and modern motorbikes will race up the driveway at Leighton Hall, near Carnforth, on September 28, from 9.30am.

The hall has a history of hosting motor racing sprints – but this will be the first time since 1969 that it has hosted the event.

The race track is just 220 metres long with a 60 degree bend only 50 metres from the start-line.

Racing will be open to all classes from vintage to modern machines and three wheelers.

For serious competitors, the times recorded will count towards the North West Sprint Championship.

There will be commentaries throughout the day, a collection of trade stands, an auto-jumble and motorcycle club displays including entry into the race paddock Legendary Isle of Man TT racer John McGuinness will be the guest of honour.
