SECONDARY school students in Cumbria who cycle to school are being offered free Bikeability training to help keep them safe on the roads.
Cumbria County Council’s Active Travel Team has secured funding from the Department for Transport to deliver the specialist cycle training to 200 students across the county.
MORE TOP STORIES:
The Level 3 Bikeability training is aimed at Years 8 and 9 students who regularly cycle to school and have already completed their Level 2 Bikeability cycle training.
Level 3 training helps students to cycle safely on busy roads and deal with a range of issues.
These include complex road junctions and hazards, making ‘on-the-move’ risk assessments and planning routes for safer cycling.
The training lasts for two hours and is delivered to groups of up to three students by an instructor from Cyclewise, the county council’s contracted training provider.
