CROWDS turned out in glorious sunshine to create a holiday atmosphere at the Underbarrow Marrow Day event at the Punchbowl Inn.

The traditional village event attracted people from far afield as well as locals enjoying a drink or a cream tea.

Marrow Day raises money for local cancer charities, and a cheque for £2,500 was presented to North West Cancer Research by chairman Charlie Johnson.

The main marrow prizes were won by Johnnie Atkinson (heaviest local); P. Lambert and Steven Rawlinson (heaviest); Steven Rawlinson (best pair); and Johnnie Atkinson (ugliest).

The duck races were won by Derrick Atkinson and Chris Holt and there was a children’s competition for a miniature garden in which the winners were – Four years and under: Lottie Date, Lucy Johnson and Isaac Swindlehurst; Five to eight-year-olds: Rachel Swindlehurst, Tily Ward and Isabella Fletcher; Nine years and over: Gemma Jones, Chloe Richardson and Lealla Gornall.

There was also a dog show, helicopter rides organised by Punchbowl landlord Chris Holt and Magic Show presented by illusionist David Arkay.
