DOMESTIC staff at the trust that runs Morecambe Bay's hospitals are up for an award for the quality of their cleaning.
The 200-strong team has been has been shortlisted for an award in the British Institute of Cleaning Science Awards, after the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust became the first in the North West to be given training accreditation.
Jackie Moreland, the trust’s lead assessor for the scheme, said being shortlisted is testament to the hard work of the staff.
“The cleanliness of our hospitals is a major priority to us and plays an important role in ensuring that a patient’s stay is as comfortable as possible.
"Our domestic staff take great pride in their work and this is well-deserved recognition for the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness they provide.”
The training accreditation for domestic staff was gained in September 2010 and the trust has now been nominated for the excellence of its in-house delivery of the programme.
Barry Rigg, lead for centre quality control, said that in addition to training, a ‘how to clean’ video had been developed for staff across the trust.
"We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award as it shows our show our commitment to providing a high quality of care to our patients,” he said.
The winners will be announced tonight at a black-tie dinner in Birmingham.
