LUNE Valley fungi expert Mike Hall will display the fruits of his foraging forays at this month's Orton Farmers' Market.

Mike, a member of Cumbria Wildlife Trust, plans to show off a variety of fungi species - both edible and poisonous - at the October 11 market.

Co-ordinator Leanne Duerden said: “Our apple identification day has always been popular in the past and we thought we’d ring the changes this year with a focus on fungi."

Mike, who is based near Kirkby Lonsdale, and has been running fungal forays in the North West for over ten years, said: “Specific specimens on the day of the farmers' market will depend on what’s available and how damp the weather is between now and October 11.

"But I’ll bring along a selection as well as reference material and information. People are welcome to bring along any fungi that they’ve found so that we can have a go at identifying them too.”
