RECYCLING centres across South Lakeland are getting new containers.

The banks for cans, plastic and card/paper are being replaced with containers at recycling centres run by South Lakeland District Council.

The district council SLDC says it is replacing around 150 of the old-style plastic dome collection banks and the large metal ‘cages’.

MORE TOP STORIES: The changeover starts this week and will continue until October. SLDC says many of the old-style banks and cages are nearly 30 years old and in need of repair or replacement.

The district council says the new containers will be easier and more efficient to collect.

The replacement programme is being carried out in partnership with contractor Cumbria Waste Recycling.
