A SPECIAL four-minute film set in the Lake District highlights how a renowned award scheme promotes adventure and understanding of spectacular landscapes.

The new small screen mini-feature shares epic place experiences in The John Muir Award in our National Parks.

Designed to showcase how teachers, pupils, volunteers and staff benefit from the John Muir Trust’s commitment to exploration and education, the lead introduction is taken by Lake District National Park chief executive, Richard Leafe.

He explains how national parks make up some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes and that the John Muir Award is an excellent way to explore and understand more about them.

Also featured is an animation of John Muir, the late, great explorer who campaigned for the first national parks and whose love of caring for wild places lives on through the award scheme.

Cumbria’s John Muir award manager, Graham Watson, said the film explored through conversations the ethos of enjoying, understanding and caring for outstanding landscapes.

He added: “I’m delighted that through this film young people, along with residents and visitors to the Lake District, have been able to share their experiences and inspire others to visit national parks across the UK.

“Of course, the John Muir Award can help them become active and leave a lasting legacy.”
