A MAN who kidnapped his ex partner from a Lake District hotel has been jailed for 21 months.

Carlisle Crown Court heard Glen Attuquayefio, 36, bundled his former partner into his car and threatened to kill her before being stopped by police on the M6.

The court was told Attuquayefio, from Manchester, had become enraged after seeing a picture of his ex partner, Zoe Yates, enjoying a weekend away with her new boyfriend at a hotel in the Lake District on July 5.

Not knowing exactly where she was, he drove to the area with his 14-year-old son and launched a frantic search for her.

He discovered Miss Yates staying at the Whitewater Hotel, Backbarrow, and demanded that the receptionist tell him Miss Yates's room number.

The court was told that when he was refused access to the information he leant over the reception desk and grabbed her booking details.

Outling the case for the prosecution Brendan Burn told the court how Attuquayefio confronted the couple and 'fought with her partner' before 'dragging' Miss Yates into his car 'against her will'.

He drove for 15 minutes but pulled over immediately when police caught up with him on the motorway.

Martin Callery, for the defence, said that Attuquaefio was angry with Miss Yates because she was supposed to be babysitting their teenage son and while he did threaten to kill her he 'did not intend for that threat to be taken literally'.

However, Miss Yates was so traumatised by the experience that she declined to give a victim statement at the sentence hearing on September 23.

The court heard how she has become withdrawn and is having trouble sleeping and her 14-year-old son, who witnessed the incident, 'is in a stressful state'.

Attuquayefio pleaded guilty to the offence of kidnapping

Summing up the case, Judge Davis said: "In no way can this be considered a lovers' tiff or a family dispute. It was a determined and premeditated attempt to control her.

"It was not a moment of madness, this was considered and persistent. You showed an arrogance and disregard for other people and a want of care for your son. The facts of this case have led me to believe that you are a risk to other young women."

Judge Davis placed an indefinite restraining order on Attuquayefio, preventing him from contacting Miss Yates or going within 200metres of her home, and sentenced him to 21 months in prison.
