A SPECIAL remembrance service in honour of those who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars was held in the churchyard of St Margaret’s Church, Low Wray, last Saturday.
The service had a special poignancy for those who once worshipped at St Margaret’s because the church has been out of use and inaccessible for seven years since it was de-consecrated in 2007. However, its doors were unlocked, allowing local people inside to recall christenings, weddings and funerals.
Families and others with close links to St Margaret’s took part in the service at the war memorial, conducted by the Vicar of Hawkshead, the Rev John Dixon. Members of the Royal British Legion Langdales branch were standard bearers.
