FIRE crews rescued four people from a car that was stuck in flood water in Arnside overnight.

At 00:18 firefighters arrived at Sandside Road, a notorious flood spot during high tide.

They rescued three adults and a child from the vehicle - all of whom are now safe and well.

The driver was from Arnside and the passengers were from the Kendal area.

Water from the estuary had flooded the road but thankfully because it was not tidal water there was little chance of the car being swept away.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue said: "The car had come to a halt due to the amount of water about and it was dark and there was a child in the car which would have escalated the situation.

"We are coming to the season where there will be flooding around and people should be aware of it and not try to drive through it.

"It should be avoided at all costs."
