COUNCILLORS are hoping to boost Kendal’s economy in the run up to the festive period with Sunday parking deals and plans for a two-week ‘Christmas Festival’.

Kendal Business Improvement District (BID) has teamed up with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) and some private car park operators to introduce a Sunday ‘pay for an hour, park all-day’ offer during October and November 2014.

MORE TOP STORIES: Starting on October 5, all SLDC operated car parks in Kendal - along with the private car park at Kendal museum - will be offering a £1.20 rate to stay all day on Sunday.

And during December 2014 parking will be free on SLDC car parks every Sunday.

Kendal traders are supporting the initiative by opening their doors on a Sunday to create seven-day-a-week trading and support local spend in the town.

Plans are also being finalised for two-weeks of festive-themed events in Kendal in the run-up to Christmas, including a four day German-style Christmas market and an ice rink attraction.
