THE winner of the first ever competition held as part of Grange's Prom Art exhibition has been announced.
David Pooley, a graphic designer who uses the Cumbrian scenery as his inspiration, has taken a £500 prize which he will spend redeveloping his studio.
His entry, A Great Day Out, which depicted a typical Sunday afternoon scene on Grange's prom, impressed the judges.
"When I read the brief for the competition I knew straight away I wanted to create a snapshot of what the prom looks like on a busy Sunday afternoon," he said.
"I also wanted to create a picture that was full of movement (because it's usually windy!) and had the bright colours of Prom Art.
"The picture was created using a mixture of acrylics, pen & ink, acrylic ink and pastel."
The judges were furniture maker, Keith Shorrock, artist, Beverley White, and mayor of Grange, Tricia Thomas.
"Being involved with Prom Art has been a fantastic experience and is an event I always enjoy taking part in," added David.
"I feel privileged to be the first Prom Art competition winner and hope it goes on to be a successful annual event."
