TWO of Cumbria's eateries have made their way into the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants guide.

Simon Rogan's L'Enclume, Cartmel, did the county proud by climbing its way into the top five at number three, while Windermere's Holbeck Ghyll came in at a modest 71.

And Simon Rogan's fine dining restaurant joins his other ventures featured in the list alongside Fera at London's Claridges and The French at The Midland Hotel, Manchester - retaining its place after last year becoming the city’s first restaurant in the top 100.

Editor of The Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants, Karen Robinson, said: “The Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants is the definitive guide to the best places to eat in Britain.

"We carefully compile and analyse the reviews of thousands of diners to produce our top 100, so the chefs and restaurants that feature have truly earned their place.

Now in its fifth year, the list is compiled by The Sunday Times in association with Harden's and is based on 70,000 reviews from more than 6,000 consumers.

Ms Robinson added: "It is very exciting to see the evolution of the list since The Sunday Times first published it in 2010 – this year has seen a marked increase in the number of restaurants outside London, a sign that we are becoming an increasingly sophisticated culinary nation."
