SOUTH Lakeland escaped much of the torrid weather that was predicted by the tail-end of Hurricane Gonzalo.
Late last week the Met Office warned there could be severe disruption on Tuesday morning as the hurricane dumped rain and brought gusts of up to 60mph.
There was some flooding between Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge and on the A591 near Prizet while a tree was blown over at Backbarrow.
Some houses in Bowness, Kendal, Grange, Ambleside and Newby Bridge experienced power cuts in the afternoon but most were restored by 10pm.
