CHILDREN were left stranded on a Lake District island after their canoes drifted away yesterday (October 23).
Liverpool Coastguard received a 999 call reporting the two children were ashore a small island on Ullswater.
A Coastguard spokesperson said: "They had been canoeing and they came ashore and their canoes drifted away."

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called to the children's' aid at 3.45pm on the island known as Lingyholm.
They were collected and taken back to the mainland to safety.
