NATWEST says a decline in footfall was the reason behind plans to close its Milnthorpe and Sedbergh branches.
The bank said the number of transactions taking place at the Milnthorpe branch has dropped by 17 per cent over the last few years, while at the Sedbergh branch they have dropped by 16 per cent.
Both branches are only open 18 hours a week and both have on average 26 customers who use the branch regularly on a weekly basis, said the bank. They are due to close on January 28.
"We are extending our mobile branch route to provide a personal banking service to the Milnthorpe and Sedbergh communities," said a spokesperson. "We are currently working with local representatives in the area to map out the correct route and we will publish the timetable before the branch closes."
