A GROUP of fair minded Lakes School students baked a selection of tasty treats for delegates at its first South Lakes Global Learning Conference.
The newly-formed Fairtrade committee are focussed on making the Troutbeck Bridge school think ethically about itself in all aspects of its business: from teaching and learning to how it sources its food and resources.
Robin Sharp, the Global Learning Co-ordinator, recently addressed a Global Learning National conference in London about the school's work. He explained that the school became one of only around 100 in the country to be awarded 'expert centre' status in the field of global education in September.
"The Fairtrade group meet every week and have a real passion about what they believe in," he said. " As well as getting involved in projects like this they are making a long term commitment to the idea of 'social justice'.
"Their next venture involves making links with communities around the globe to better understand how the simple, everyday choices we make can impact on the lives of others."
