POLICE have named the 88-year-old who died on Friday after his car left the A6 near Heversham.
Officers say Joseph Montague Hart, from Milnthorpe, died in the one vehicle crash after his Peugeot 106 ended up in a field.
They are now keen to speak to witnesses to the crash, which took place on the southbound carriageway.
The incident happened at 11.43am and the road was closed for a short time.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and speak to PC Eyres of the South Cumbria Operational Support Unit.
