A SOUTH Cumbrian company which runs a country estate, racecourse and several holiday parks has announced the appointment of a new chairman.

The Holker Group has this week confirmed Lucy Cavendish has taken over the role, following in the footsteps of her father, Lord Cavendish of Furness DL.

Lord Cavendish has been the chairman of Holker Group for the past 42 years.

Lucy became chairman of Burlington Slate Ltd two years ago and led the company’s international sales growth and quarrying operations.

She has been at the helm of the Holker Group since the start of November, now overseeing its portfolio which includes Holker Hall and Gardens, Cartmel Racecourse and Longlands and Old Park Wood holiday parks.

"My vision is to create a sustainable business that will benefit the wider community, whilst upholding the traditions that my family have valued for generations," said Lucy.

"This will involve investment in all areas to maintain a dynamic business that can react and adapt to ever-changing economic conditions."
