TTHE World War One 'Christmas truce' of 1914, which saw enemy soldiers drop arms to join together in celebrations, is to be the subject of a play in Arkholme.
On November 22 an original, entertaining and moving play will be performed at the village hall, telling the incredible story of the events which saw soldiers on both sides come together for a brief break from the horrors of war.
The event happened on the evening of December 24 on the Western Front, when, along the miles of trenches, wet and freezing men faced each other in a stalemate.
Then, over the temporary halt in gunfire, voices from both sides begin to talk, sing and break the silent night…
The event is being run by Spot-On, as part of the Imperial War Museum’s First World War Centenary project, and is calling at Arkholme as part of a tour of rural venues.
Tickets can be bought in advance from Chris May on 07519 281 305 or c.may@lancaster.ac.uk
