GAME of Thrones fans already know that 'winter is coming,' but if you want proof look to the east at around 9pm. Shining just above the horizon you'll see a short, vertical line of three stars. This is the famous Orion's Belt. When we're in the depths of winter, Orion will dominate the winter nights, his club raised to fight off an attack by the sky's very own raging bull, Taurus.
Shortly before 11pm, Jupiter will follow Orion's Belt over the horizon. Look for a bright, blue-white star climbing up from behind the treetops, that isn't twinkling; planets don't twinkle in the sky but stars do. Look to Jupiter's right and you'll see a bright blue star flashing and sparkling low in the south east. This is Sirius, brightest star in the whole sky.
