TWO pensioners had to be rescued from a Lake District fell with leg injuries.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 9.15pm to a woman in her 70s who had been walking in the Coniston fells when she fell down Dow Crag, injuring her leg on Thursday (November 20).

The casualty had continued on her descent until she was unable to go any further.

Her husband, in his 80s, walked to a public call box in Coniston and became injured himself.

Thirteen rescue team members were sent out and the woman was found on Walna Scar track where she was treated and then stretchered to a Land Rover Ambulance.

She was taken to the team's base in Coniston while her husband was treated for his injuries.

The woman was then taken by road ambulance to Furness General Hospital for further treatment.
