A MOUNTAIN rescue team was called out three times yesterday (November 21) to injured or lost walkers.

Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) was first called out at 12.40pm to a 64-year-old man who was unable to continue due to exhaustion in Great Langdale.

The man, who had been walking with his son on Crinkle Crag, was located by team members, joined by Kendal MRT, at Rest Ghyll and assisted down to Lingcove Beck back to the road.

At 3.30pm a woman who suffered a possible ankle fracture while walking near Easedale Tarn, Grasmere, had to be stretchered from the fell and transferred to an ambulance.

And at 5.21pm the team were called out again to a woman who got lost after being caught in the dark.

She was located using SARLOC - a smartphone app used by mountain rescue teams to help locate lost walkers who also have a smartphone - before being assisted from the hill.

A LAMRT spokesperson has warned walkers to always carry a torch.

"What ever time of year, always carry a torch," they said. "You never know when or why you may be delayed.

"It's worth carrying a set of spare batteries as well.

"If you're lucky they'll be the same size as other devices you might be carrying such as GPS.

"Modern LED torches are very reliable, and batteries last a long time, and it's well worth considering a headtorch in favour of a hand torch - leaving your hands free."
