WALKERS found by a search dog after getting lost on a Lake District fell found their car broken into and high value items stolen.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team were called at 7.11pm by the Aeronautical Rescue Command Centre in Kinloss, reporting an activation of an emergency beacon near Crinkle Crags, Great Langdale.

The group of five had become stranded on a crag and called 999 on Saturday (November 22).

They were located by search dog Ted before being helped from the steep ground and down the hill.

When two of the fell walkers returned to their car, they found the rear window of their Audi A6 had been smashed.

Cumbria Police said an iPad, bluetooth speaker, women's perfume and bags of clothing had been snatched from the boot of the car, belonging to a man from Bolton.

The break in at a lay-by near Wrynose Pass is believed to have taken place sometime between 9am and 3.57pm and was spotted by a member of the public who reported it to the police.
