AN Ingleton butcher looks set to carve out a successful career after scooping a prestigious award.

George Taylor, 22, who works at Country Harvest in the North Yorkshire village was named Young Butcher of the Year at the Meat Trades Journal's glittering awards ceremony in London's Covent Garden.

"I'm very pleased and it's just so overwhelming," said George. "You don't like to be too confident but I ended up being the first one on stage!"

The young butcher, who has been working at Country Harvest since January, fought off stiff competition to make it into the shortlisted four and was announced as winner on Friday (November 14) which also marked his first trip to the capital.

George, whose partner Harriet works in the coffee shop, was quizzed, had to cut up meat, serve customers and explain the 40 products they offer all under the eagle eyes of the journal's editor and other judges from the Butcher’s Shop of the Year awards when they paid a visit to Country Harvest.
