HEALTH workers have set up pickets in Kendal today as part of nationwide strike action.

Staff from North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group are out on strike.

They are taking the action to demand a one per cent pay rise.

Striking staff gathered outside Westmorland General Hospital and Kendal ambulance station holding placards this morning. The strike was due to run from 7am until 11am.

The organisations involved said they would try and minimise disruption to services and would respond to emergencies.

Radiographers working for the health bodies will also be on strike from 8am until midday.

Emergency and urgent care will continue to be provided on Monday morning but pre-booked appointments and procedures may be affected. For the rest of the week radiographers will take scheduled breaks and will not work unpaid overtime.
