A SOUTH Lakes man has achieved an amazing double - beating off competition from thousands of amateur photographers to get a second nature photograph featured in the prestigious Countryfile calendar.

For the 2014 calendar, David Jackson's picture of wild daisies taken at Tenterfell in Kendal was the judges' choice for July.

Now the graphic designer's photograph - Funky Frogs - taken through a drinks glass has been selected as the main image for January in the 2015 calendar.

"I was so overwhelmed to be in last year, so it was a tall order to follow that," said David.

"But to my surprise, the BBC rang me about my frog picture, to say I'd got through. It was so exciting.

"The picture was taken at the allotment with my little helpers Paddy and Molly-May, who are very good 'frog-tamers'. It was shot through glass with water on it against the old stone bird bath. I wanted it bright so with a shallow depth of field and the bright jackets behind out of focus and hopefully no reflections."

The theme for the new calendar was Animal Magic and David had a second photograph - Magical Horse - also in the running on the final table.

"Last year, the calendar raised £1.5 million - a record - and for such a good cause, Children in Need, I was proud to be part of the competition," said David, who works for Badger Press in Bowness-on-Windermere.

He studied black and white film photography in1980 but only took it up again as a hobby when he bought his first digital camera and "it opened up a whole new world".

David added: "Its great to be part of the Countryfile calendar again and I hope everyone that can will buy it a minimum of £4 goes to Children in Need."
