REISSUED maps give an intriguing snapshot of the Auld Grey Town a century ago.
The two large-scale Ordnance Survey maps show Kendal in great detail as it looked in 1911, right down to its workhouse on Windermere Road and virtually every house in town.
Landmarks such as the railway line and goods station, wool and ale stores, quarry, boot factory, brewery, leather works, bonded warehouse and woollen mill give an insight into into Kendal's rich industrial heritage.
Conspicuous by their absence are 20th century developments such as housing at Hallgarth and Mintsfeet industrial estate, which appear as empty fields on the Kendal (North) map.
The maps were first published in 1991 and sold so well that an updated second edition has been issued by Alan Godfrey Maps, of Consett.
