ALMOST one thousand guides came together this weekend to celebrate 40 years in Cumbria South.
Around 930 members from across the region made their way to the the Manjushri Centre at Conishead Priory, Ulverston, on Sunday (November 30) for the Past, Present and Future event.
This marked the changes to local government boundaries in 1974 which led to the formation of Girlguiding Cumbria South, encompassing parts of former Westmorland, Cumberland and Lancashire.
The group's district commissioner Rhona Teale said: "Girls and young women attended from as far afield as Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal, Grasmere, South Lakes, Grange, Ulverston and surrounding Villages, Dalton and Barrow," she said. "The event was excellent and ran smoothly from start to finish."
Guides and 'VIPs', including the region's chief commissioner Julie Bell and Kendal Mayor Tom Clare, heard from past members and were treated to a dance session during the celebration.
