THREE hundred local children got a once-in-a-lifetime event on Sunday - to meet their rugby heroes.

The Kirkby Lonsdale office of Sanlam Private Investments arranged for them to meet Saracens and England rugby union players David Strettle and his teammate Ben Ransom at the Underley Park home of Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Union Club.

The aspiring rugby hopefuls spanned all ages from the under sixes to U-16s and took part in a two-hour session.

Some groups had a ‘hands on’ interactive training session with the players and others had the opportunity to ask questions.

David Strettle is an England RU player who plays on the wing for the Saracens, while Ben Ransom a fullback, has moved up the ranks himself, representing England at U-16, U-18 and U-20 levels.

Charles Cohen, head of Sanlam Private Investments Kirkby Lonsdale office, said: “We were delighted to be able to arrange for two Premiership rugby union players to attend the mini and youth training session at Underley Park and support our local club in this way. "Kirkby Lonsdale has a fantastic mini and youth rugby set up and we were thrilled to be able to support both the club and our community by sharing access to the Saracens Club, which is sponsored by Sanlam Private Investments.
