NATIONAL charity Sustrans is working with volunteers to search for mistletoe between Whitehaven to Rowrah on the Coast to Coast (C2C) path this December, as part of work to monitor the plants and animals that live on the popular cycle and walking route.

The seasonal search for this rare plant is part of a national campaign which aims to monitor all species along traffic-free cycle paths in the National Cycle Network, and make the routes more wildlife friendly – and Sustrans urgently needs more volunteers.

Volunteer ‘wildlife champions’ will record species each month they find on this stretch of the C2C, which attracts walkers and families, as well as around 15,000 cyclists a year who ride the full 140-mile long route. The monitoring results will help Sustrans protect the eco-systems already flourishing in the area and make the route attractive for other species too.
