A MAN has been jailed for his involvement in the supply of Class A drugs from Merseyside into Cumbria.

Christopher Michael Fowler, 56, of Pemberton Road, Wirral, appeared before Preston Crown Court today (December 18) and was sentenced to nine years in prison.

His appearance in court was a result of an investigation conducted by the South Area Drugs Unit into the supply of heroin from Merseyside into Cumbria.

Fowler played a pivotal role in this supply and was responsible for making 78 trips to Barrow-in-Furness with quantities of heroin.

On one occasion, officers recovered 334 street deals of heroin from him worth a street value of over £3,000.

Between June 2013 and June 2014 the South Area Drugs Unit tracked Fowler’s movements and established that he used two motor vehicles, to bring the Class A drugs to Cumbria.

He only remained in Cumbria for a very short period of time to drop off new consignments of drugs and return to Merseyside.

The investigation came to a conclusion on June 13 when uniformed police officers stopped the red VW Grafter van, driven by Fowler, on the A590 near Ulverston.

The officers detained him for the purpose of conducting a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

When the officers conducted a search of the vehicle they recovered a blue Everton hat which contained a large knotted plastic bag containing a number of individual wraps of brown powder that was later identified as heroin.
