A 92-YEAR-old woman died several weeks after falling down the stairs from her Kendal flat, an inquest heard.
Maisie Townley’s neighbour described hearing an ‘almighty bang’ from her own ground floor flat at the Caroline Street property on July 24.
Barbara Bateson told the inquest: “I got up to have a look and I saw Mrs Townley’s daughter hanging out of the back bedroom window, just screaming and pointing at me to go to the door.
“Maisie was behind the door and I couldn’t open it to get to her so I rushed back to the house and called 999.”
Mrs Townley was admitted to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with a spinal injury and was transferred to Royal Preston Hospital before her death on August 19.
Alan Sharp, the assistant coroner for south and east Cumbria, said Mrs Townley died from congestive heart failure caused by heart disease, but added that the injuries made her condition worse.
He recorded a conclusion that the cause of death was natural causes contributed to by a fall.
