A NEW house on Ulverston's Star Street would not have a significant impact on the character or appearance of the town's conservation area, South Lakeland planners agreed.
Applicants Mr and Mrs Haddow are proposing to build a three-bedroom detached house in the garden of an existing property, Morecambe Villa.
Ulverston Civic Society raised some concerns about the loss of garden in their response to the plans, but they said they were pleased that the new property's roof would be stepped to break up its 'mass'.
Describing Star Street as an 'interesting terrace', the society added that it was a 'shame' the design was not a little more interesting.
Meanwhile, Ulverston town councillors raised concerns about the house design and the site layout, and narrowly voted in favour.
The plans were approved by South Lakeland District Council.
